New website launched
After the end of life of Joomla 1.5 it was time to move this site to Joomla 2.5. What sounded simple was in fact very complicated. The most important extensions I used were not available for Joomla 2.5 (Rok Downloads, Joomsuite Member and Rokbridge. So I basicaly started from scratch. Given that I also recently switched jobs it took way too long. But the good news is it's running on Joomla 2.5 now!
Of course you wonder mostly when you can expect a new version of the Shoutbox. Well I won't give a date but I'm going to release something soon.
As you might have noticed the forum is gone and I'm working on getting it back. For now if you have a question please contact me. Also I tried to transfer all users and subscriptions to this new website. If you think something went wrong contact me as well.

Joomla! 1.6 versions available
As of today the shoutbox runs natively under Joomla! 1.6! Both the free and pro version have been updated. Note that due to the changes in Joomla there are now seperate version for Joomla 1.5 and 1.6. You can find them in the download section of this site!
Please note that the archive component has not yet been updated for Joomla 1.6. Expected a release within 1-2 weeks. If you find any bugs please post them in the Bugs forum!
Joomla 1.6
As probably all of you know Joomla! 1.6 was released in the beginning of this year. And as you probably know as well both the free and pro version of the shoutbox don't run on Joomla! 1.6 yet. I have good news for you all: I've been working hard on getting both versions ready. One of the problems I faced was that the plugins I use for smilies and bbcode haven't been ported yet to J! 1.6. Therefore I've decided to port these myself since I don't want anyone to lose features when they upgrade to the new Joomla version.
At the moment I have both version of the shoutbox running on J! 1.6 and both plugins. There's still a bit of testing left and I hope to release them all by the end of this week!
Shoutbox Pro 1.4rc1 Released
This update was long overdue but it's finally ready. Version 1.4 includes lots of new features that were frequently requested on the forums. List of the new features:
- Run multiple shoutboxes on the same page
- New shouts can be added to the top or bottom
- Completely rewritten the Javascript of the shoutbox, which support both mootools 1.1 and 1.2
- Sounds are now played with flash and not a QuickTime object
- Performance greatly improved, and now also works with smilies and BBCode
- Kunena avatar support
- Latest message updates automatically and can also be turned off
Clearly this is the best release of the shoutbox ever. Currently it's in the final testing phase, hence it's a release candidate. If no issues are found in the coming days, the final version will be released very soon. But you can download it already from this site.
Upgrade is simple: install the patch (1.4) and then upgrade your shoutbox by installing the new module. Please report any bugs you find in the forums!
